Moderator-elect
Have you always wanted to wield a gavel? Are you a Roberts Rules nerd? (Perhaps you prefer “Bob’s” Rules, proffered by his casual cousin?) Ever wondered what the inside of GA looks like? Want to know more about why we do what we do? How about getting to know Presbytery staff on a first-name basis? Do you want to look like you’re in charge with the assurance that others will (graciously) fill in your knowledge and skill gaps? Have we got an opportunity for you! The Presbytery of Great Rivers’ Nominating Committee is looking for candidates for our next Moderator-elect. Being the moderator is a three-year commitment (Year One in the elect role, Year Two as moderator, and Year Three as past-moderator). Before it all begins, online or in-person training (in Louisville, KY) will be offered. Past moderators are there to support you in your role along the way, so you won’t be alone. If you (or someone you know) might be interested, Contact Peter Galbraith from the Nominating Committee at [email protected]. |
Mission Commission
Are you a teacher or educator? Do you have experience working with youth? Do you have a heart for missions both locally and globally? Perhaps you have been touched by the needs of the waves of immigrants coming to our country. Are you aware of mission opportunities in our town, cities and state? Are you concerned about peace and justice in these tumultuous times? Do you recognize the need for educating and equipping the local church with the tools needed to help bring peace and justice to those in need? Or do you simply know that God is nudging you to consider that there is more you can do to help? If any of these questions hit close to home for you, the Presbytery of Great Rivers would like you to consider the opportunity to promote and nurture the missional action of the Presbytery. The Mission Commission meets on a near-monthly basis via Zoom. If you (or someone you know) might be interested, contact Peter Galbraith from the Nominating Committee at [email protected]. |

Operations Commission
Do you see a well-formatted spreadsheet and think, “It’s a beautiful thing!”? Do you read contracts with vigor? Or do you simply enjoy it when an organization works as it should? Organizing, administrating, helping, governing, guiding, leading are all translations of the spiritual gift Paul describes as needed in the church (1 Corinthians 12:28). If any of the above describes your gifting, the church needs you! The Operations Commission of the Presbytery of Great Rivers is calling all who are buoyed a bit when hearing, “Good administration is good ministry!” This Commission meets on a near-monthly basis (usually via Zoom). If you (or someone you know) might be interested, contact Peter Galbraith from the Nominating Committee at [email protected]. |
Commission on Transitions
Do you enjoy walking alongside others and guiding them in their church-life journey? Would you like to walk with congregations as they discern their future in ministry? Are you intrigued with the thought of helping a congregation prepare for their search for a pastor, or other form of leadership? Are you a calm voice when others are anxious? If you've answered YES to any of these questions, then perhaps God is calling you to serve on the Commission on Transitions. As part of the Transitions team, you will assist and help guide congregations and Sessions through times of pastoral leadership and other ministry changes. You'll also receive training and support from leaders along the way. This Commission meets on a near-monthly basis (usually via Zoom). If you (or someone you know) might be interested, contact Peter Galbraith from the Nominating Committee at [email protected]. |
