Interfaith Community

INTERFAITH  MISSION  STATEMENT

The mission of the Interfaith Relations Committee of Great Rivers Presbytery is to encourage and facilitate positive engagement of our congregations, the presbytery itself, and individual Presbyterians with people of non-Christian faith traditions through education, dialogue and common cause:

Education
Provide resources (online, printed, human) which can help congregations and the presbytery learn about the core unifying beliefs and practices of, as well as diversity within, non-Christian religious traditions. The goal would be a sympathetic understanding of the other traditions, and not positive or negative comparisons.

Dialogue
Provide resources, guidance and assistance connecting clergy and congregations with local worshipping communities of other religious traditions for the purpose of constructive dialogue and mutual understanding.

Common cause
Encourage partnerships with individuals, congregations and agencies of other faith traditions in activities of compassion and social justice in local communities, central Illinois, the nation and internationally.
